1.Mount Kailash-Where Four Faiths Meet the Sky

Hinduism – Lord Śiva’s Cosmic Throne

To Hindus, Kailash is Mount Meru itself—the place where Śiva meditates, his trident spearing the heavens. Just one clockwise circuit (a parikrama) is said to erase a lifetime of karma.

Tibetan Buddhism – Physical Form of Mount Sumeru

Tibetan Buddhists see the peak as the earthly projection of Sumeru, the universe’s centre. Mani stones and spinning prayer wheels line the trail; each mantra whispered into the wind is believed to echo straight into Nirvāṇa.

Jainism – Stage of Liberation

Jains honour Kailash as Astapada, where the first Tīrthaṅkara, Ṛ̥ṣabhanātha, attained moksha. Pilgrims walk barefoot here, believing pain purifies the soul.

Yungdrung Bön – Navel of the World

For Tibet’s indigenous Bön tradition, Kangrinboqê is literally the world’s umbilicus—a portal where spirits pierce the veil between heaven and earth.

Locals collect vial-sized flasks of glacier melt as “liquid blessings.” We transformed that ritual into our Black-Pottery Holy Water Cup—its base embossed with the four-river symbols (shop link).

5 .The Unclimbed Summit-Mount Kailash: Science vs. Sacred

Modern climbers petitioned China in 1980 and 2001. Both times, local lamas opposed: “The summit is a throne, not a trophy.” Expeditions that attempted reconnaissance reported spinning compasses and sudden white-outs. Whether electromagnetic anomaly or divine sentinel, Kangrinboqê stays virgin—one of Earth’s last inviolate peaks.
